Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt, Leaver or Remainer?

The tension was palpable across the British Isles for over a month, and yesterday we got an answer. The new Conservative leader is Boris Johnson who won confidently with 92,153 votes against Jeremy Hunt´s 46,656. Mrs May´s successor has officially moved in to 10 Downing Street today after an audience with the Queen and gave his first speech as a new PM.

What future holds

Mr Johnson is committed to resolve Brexit though some of his opponents are very sceptical. They don’t see a way out as they don’t believe the new prime minister can change the Brexit situation that has almost reached an impasse. On the other hand, many people, including his rival Jeremy Hunt, trust and admire his confidence in the United Kingdom that, they are sure, will help him do a great job.

Boris Johnson is very enthusiastic to unite Britain and “deliver Brexit”, as promised in his victory speech. And he has everything he needs for it, charisma, optimism, determination and perseverance. Well, he is after all a “Brexit’s cheerleader-in-chief”. At the same time he will need support from the Parliament, and his predecessor Mrs May has already promised him her support.

A couple of senior figures have already resigned and others are on the way. They say they won´t be able to serve under his leadership, especially when it comes to his rather “do or die” position on Brexit.

Now the country is waiting to greet the new government and hear Mr Johnson´s Brexit strategy.
